Corona Virus Pandemic 2020.

What is corona virus ??

Corona viruses are basically a group of viruses which usually affects birds and mammals. It can cause infections specifically in the respiratory tract causing minor cold , vomiting to severe respiratory problems.

How many types of Corona viruses are there? Do we need to worry for all?

Coronaviruses are named for the crown-like spikes on their surface. There are four main sub-groupings of coronaviruses, known as alpha, beta, gamma, and delta. Besides these sometime corona virus can mutate itself according to its host's metabolic circumstances.
Human coronaviruses were first identified in the mid-1960s. The seven coronaviruses that can infect people are:
  1. 229E (alpha coronavirus)
  2. NL63 (alpha coronavirus)
  3. OC43 (beta coronavirus)
  4. HKU1 (beta coronavirus)
  5. MERS-CoV (the beta coronavirus that causes Middle East Respiratory Syndrome, or MERS)
  6. SARS-CoV (the beta coronavirus that causes severe acute respiratory syndrome, or SARS)
  7. SARS-CoV-2 (the novel coronavirus that causes coronavirus disease 2019, or COVID-19)
Coronaviruses vary significantly in risk factor. The first four mentioned corona virus are relatively harmless and do not poses any danger to human being. Some mild cold flu or fever is maximum what can cause by them. But the same is not true for the later three. Some of them can kill more than 30% of those infected (such as MERS-CoV), and some are even worse.Coronaviruses cause colds with major symptoms, such as fever, and sore throat from swollen adenoids, occurring primarily in the winter and early spring seasons. Coronaviruses can cause pneumonia (either direct viral Pneumonia or a secondary bacterial pneumonia) and bronchitis (either direct viral bronchitis or a secondary bacterial bronchitis).

What about the Wuhan corona virus? Are things super hyped up ?

No. Nothing is hyped up. In fact the situation is very alarming worldwide. According to official data till now over   450 thousand of confirmed case has been registered and more than 19 thousands of people loss their lives. The disease have been spread across 196 countries all over the world and many country is under LOCKDOWN condition.
The official name for Wuhan Corona virus is SARS-CoV-2 (the novel coronavirus). It was first reported to WHO in late December,2019 from Hubei Province. The initial case was found in a bush meat shop worker. On January 11, China confirms first death due to this new virus. The disease spread all over the Hubei province within a week and soon across the entire north east part of china. On January 13, WHO reports a case in Thailand, making it the first confirmed case outside mainland China.

Where is the disease now ? Is my country safe?

The disease have already spread all over the world. 196 country have confirmed cases with registering a staggering number of around 450 000 of confirmed cases. WHO already decleared the outbreak as a pandemic situation.
Currently the epicenter of disease is in Europe. Although China still tops the maximum number of confirmed cases, major portion of that have been recovered. Italy, Spain are among the country in Europe to take the major hit of corona virus. Italy is having its worst nightmare. About 60 000 confirmed cases with dead toll touching 8000.
In US also the disease is spreading in uncontrollable manner. In US 60 000 of confirmed cases has been registered till now, with a death toll about 1000. India and other South Asian country haven't affected much till now compared to the rest of world.
No country can be considered safe considering its spreading rate. The estimated R-o is between 1.5 to 3.5. R-0 represents the average number of people to which a single infected person will transmit the virus.

How the virus spread ?

It can be Spread in two way.
  1. Person-to-person spread
  2. Spread from contact with contaminated surfaces or objects
People are thought to be most contagious when they are most symptomatic. Some spread might be possible before people show symptoms; there have been reports of this occurring with this new coronavirus, but this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads.
People to People spread can happen when you directly touch or make contact with a sick person. The virus can transmit through the respiratory droplet also.
It also possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes, but this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads.

What's next? How can we control its spreading

To control the spreading we need to break the chain of transmission. In order to do so we much perform and maintain a minimum social distance of about 2 meter. The government of almost all countries are trying their best to contain the virus. Most of the country decleared nation wise Locked down.

How to be safe ?

Avoiding CoVid 19 is relatively simple and doesn't require much help. Personal hygiene is mandatory. Wash your hand frequently with Soap and water. Maintain a social distance as much as possible. Always ware a proper face mask whenever go out.
Do the following Five to avoid corona

  1. HOME Stay if you can
  2. HANDS Wash them frequently
  3. ELBOW Cough into it
  4. FACE Don't touch it
  5. SPACE Keep safe distance
